Reptiles

"The front door opened; Mildred came down the steps, running, one suitcase held with a dreamlike clenching rigidity in her fist, as a beetle-taxi hissed to the curb." P. 114

The taxi hissing is reptilish. It shows that it is doing an evil deed for and evil person by helping Mildred get away.

Fire

"The fire was gone, then back again. Like a winking eye...a strange fire because it meant a different thing to him." p 145

This is an interesting quote because it tells of a fire that is good. The mention of eyes may refer to Montag's eyes which were supposed to be full of fire. This quote not only illustrates the change in the meaning of fire, but also the change in Montag's soul which was symbolized not only by the river and his wearing Faber's cloths but also by the change in his perception of fire.

Technology- " He turned and the mechanical hound was there. It was half across the lawn, coming from the shadows, moving with such drifting ease that it was like a solid cloud of black gray smoke blown at him in silence" Pg120

The mechanical hounds sounds if though it was a human and it has the ability to walk like a human. Technology like this would have taken alot of time, thought and work to make and design. It is very futuristic.

Fire

"He hadn't known that fire could look this way. He never thought in his life that it could give as well as take. Even its smell was diffrent." p146

I think that Bradburry is trying to show that when we look at something through a diffrent view then we can see the good or bad in it. When Montag was first looking at fire it was through eyes that were clouded from all the smoke and false happiness that was fed to him. When he sees fire for the first time after going through a "re-birth" he then notices how good fire can be when used the right way.

Eyes-"Montag, lying there, eyes gritted shut with dust, a fine white cement of dust in his now shut mouth..."
-pg.160-

This qoute shows montag in agony of his traveling and unstability. He feels like he is sealed shut and no emotions can get out. Also, it shows how tired he is that he has been closed for so long he has gained dirt and dust sealing his openings.
